“What the Minister has done (appointing commission) is the right thing. He needs to satisfy himself beyond any reasonable doubt that there was no malicious intent,” he said.
He said police investigations should also continue as well as the internal probe by Dr Mahachi to ascertain the emergency preparedness at the plant.
“We cannot just sneeze at such a matter. The Minister needs to satisfy himself that there was no harm. He is accountable to Cabinet. He needs to give his Cabinet colleagues convincing responses,” he said.
]The ministerial commission is headed by the director of civil protection, Mr Madzudzo Pawadyira.
Other members are former Masvingo town clerk Mr Tsungai Mhangami, Mrs Florence Ziyambe from the AG’s office, Mrs Petronella Shoko the director of the EMA, Mr Patrick Mushonga a member of the State Procurement Board, Mr Albert Wakandigara a consultant on hazardous substances and Mr Comedy Piti a mining inspector with Government.
