THE 2015 Masvingo Agricultural Show begins today with focus on finding ways of improving food production in the wake of climate change. The four-day event is also expected to tackle employment creation opportunities in light of company closures and loss of jobs.
Masvingo Show Society administration secretary Jane Marevesa, however, noted a decline in the number of registered exhibitors to 70 from 86 last year.
Provincial Minister of State Shuvai Mahofa will officially open the show on Saturday under the theme “Shifting from relief to sustainable food supply”.
“We’re ready to go and everything is in place. Although we’ve attracted few exhibitors we’re happy to have managed to retain our traditional exhibitors,” said Marevesa. The livestock show will not feature at the event due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease.
Masvingo province was hit by drought in the last farming season,` which resulted in massive crop failure in most districts.
