Masvingo City Council is planning to raise US$20 000 for the Masvingo Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.
A series of fundraising events have been lined up to raise funds for the Cheer Fund from where proceeds will be donated to disadvantaged members of the community.
Among the traditional beneficiaries is the Mucheke Old People’s Home and Alpha Cottages Orphanage in the ancient city.
Masvingo Mayor Councillor Alec Tabe said a fundraising dinner is slated for December 7 to raise money for the Cheer Fund.
Besides that, a half marathon will also be held with proceeds going to charity. A golf tourney is also earmarked for Masvingo Golf Club at the beginning of December as the council pulls all the stops to raise funds for charity.
“We are appealing to the Masvingo community to support this worthy cause where we are trying to raise money for charity under the gamut of Masvingo Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund,” he said.
“A series of fundraising events have been lined up and we have set a target to raise US$20 000.”
