Masvingo hikes medical aid subscriptions

MASVINGO City Council has approved subscriptions increase of the Masvingo  () with the local authority paying 80 percent of the total cost.

According to the minutes of the Finance and General Purposes committee it was reported that due to inflation the subscriptions needed to be reviewed and the increase was necessary for the viability of the society.

“Consideration was given to the report of the acting finance director Mr Danister Jori on the proposed increase in Medical Aid subscriptions.

It was reported that the medical services had significantly gone up due to inflation in the economy and therefore the need to review subscriptions.”

The management committee for the MMMAS had agreed that the subscriptions be revised to $3 500 for Basic care scheme from $1 650, $7 000 for Main scheme from $3 300 and $14 000 for Platinum scheme from $3 750.

“It was highlighted that in terms of the collective bargaining agreement council will contribute 80 percent of the new subscriptions.

It was noted that the increase was necessary for the viability of the society.

The proposed subscriptions were approved by the committee,” read part of the minutes.

Meanwhile, the office of the acting finance director has been directed to pay $5 million to the office of the Auditor General being audit fees for the 2021 financial statements for the City of Masvingo.

“Consideration was given to the report of the acting finance director on the audit fees for 2021 financial statements.

It was reported that the office of the Auditor General submitted an invoice of $5 269 012.98 for the audit and the authority was sought to pay.”
