MASVINGO United maintained their fine run after they collected maximum points in a tightly contested match away to Mutare Polytechnic on Saturday.
The Masvingo giants pocketed three points after the 1-0 win, taking their winning streak to five games in a row in the Zifa Eastern Region Soccer League.
The team’s spirited run so far has rekindled memories of 2005 in which the team had a poor start, losing their first five matches but later found the rhythm which they maintained up to the end of the season.
Masvingo United head coach Joel Nhumwa said his boys are improving with each match and are yet to hit peak levels.
Nhumwa said he is happy that he has managed to eliminate Mutare Polytechnic who are fourth while Masvingo are on fifth, with a point separating the two teams.
“I am very happy that the boys managed to display good football in Mutare despite the match being difficult. We managed to collect maximum points playing away with a team which was in the top four last week.
“The boys are improving on a daily basis and we will continue to work extra hard so that we earn ourselves promotion into the topflight league. We are just six points away from log leaders Buffaloes Juniors and we believe we will prevail,” said Nhumwa.
ZRP Masvingo recorded their fifth loss of the season when visitors Eastern Stars beat them 2-0 at Mucheke Stadium.
Renco Mine fought for a draw at their backyard, managing to stop high riding FC Three Leaves.
Gutu FC travelled to Chivhu Stars where they won 2-1.
Mwenezana FC recorded their third defeat of the season away at Tenax FC when they crashed 4-1.
Log leaders Buffaloes Juniors maintained a good run as they scored four goals without reply when they hosted bottom of the table positioned Black Eagles FC.
Gaza Gunners and Ruwa United shared spoils in a match which ended 1-1.
