Masvingo Provincial Hospital’s sports team, Morefire is working on constructing a sports centre at a cost of US$25 000 to provide a platform for staff and residents to exercise.
Speaking during a fundraising dinner at a local hotel in Masvingo recently, More Fire chairman Tawanda Mlambo said the team was mobilising resources towards setting up of a sports facility centre in the city as part of addressing aspects of wellness for both staff and residents.
He said the sports centre was important because it presented the hospital with an opportunity to assist those in need of rehabilitation services.
“We are a competitive social soccer team which has won a number of trophies for the hospital. We are working on coming up with a sports centre at a cost of at least US$25 000,” said Mlambo.
Mlambo who is a senior rehabilitation technician said the team had received a boost from Masvingo City Council who offered land measuring five hectares, for the project.
“We have received a head start from our local authority in the form of ground. We were given land for free. We look forward to getting more assistance from the business community,” he said.
TM Group director Tinashe Manzungu who was also guest of honour hailed Masvingo City Council and urged residents to embrace the project as exercising played a pivotal role in one’s health.
“I am told Masvingo City Council has also offered a grader for clearing the landscape. As the main fundraisers we are happy to have such a local authority that supports health. Sports help a person to stay fit against diseases. My company is also involved in health, providing medical cover to members. When I heard of this initiative, we were ready to fundraise and raised $4 000 for the project, “said Manzungu.
