ALL is set for today’s Zanu-PF “Thank You” rally to be addressed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Rutenga Growth Point in Mwenezi East, Masvingo province.
The rally which was initially supposed to be held on the first week of this month, is meant to be an interaction between the President and party members where the Head of State thanks them for voting for the party in last year’s harmonised general elections.
In Masvingo province, Zanu-PF garnered 25 out of 26 parliamentary seats in the elections which were overwhelmingly won by the ruling party.
Provincial chairman Cde Ezra Chadzamira who is also Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, said a bumper crowd is expected to gather at Rutenga grounds. “We are hosting His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Rutenga in Mwenezi East on Saturday (today). He is coming for a “Thank you” rally and we are ready for his first visit (to the province) in 2019,” said Cde Chadzamira.
He said the province was looking forward to the rally and members from all the seven districts will be travelling to Mwenezi led by their executive committees.
“There is going to be transport in every district to ferry people to the rally. The morale is high and we are confident there will be a bumper crowd,” said Cde Chadzamira. Zanu-PF Mwenezi East legislator Cde Josbi Omar said people were looking forward to meeting President Mnangagwa.
“The mood here is electric as we are looking forward to the President’s ‘Thank You’ rally. Mwenezi East and West produced over 40 000 votes for the party and President Mnangagwa in the harmonised elections last year and for that we deserve to be visited,” he said.
Cde Omar polled more than 22 000 votes beating Dr Kudakwashe Bhasikiti of MDC Alliance who only bagged slightly above 3 000 votes.
Meanwhile, the party leadership in Masvingo has urged members to be at Chiefs’ Hall in Mucheke at 6 AM where a bus has been provided to ferry them to the rally. — @walterbmswazie2
