MASVINGO residents will be in for prolonged water cuts over the next two weeks as the local authority embarks on maintenance work at the Bushmead Water Works.
Mayor Councillor Hubert Fidze urged residents yesterday to fill up big containers with water.
“We’re going to flight a statement in the newspaper to that effect. We’re carrying maintenance work at the main water plant and water won’t be pumped during the period especially on the following dates, July 5, 6, 11 and12,” said Clr Fidze adding, “There will be intermittent supplies thereafter for close to two weeks.”
Clr Fidze urged residents to bear with council while maintenance works were underway.

“We expect residents to understand the situation. The exercise is inevitable. We’ve to carry out maintenance work so that the plant remains in shape.
“I know there could be complains but the situation is beyond our control,” he added.

Residents yesterday accused the council of not considering their plight saying they did not have alternative water sources.
“There should be an alternative. Council should provide bowsers, which will ensure that residents get access to water not to say there would be no water for the rest of the day,” said Masvingo Urban Residents and Ratepayers Association spokesperson Brenda Muronda.
