ZIFA Eastern Region Division One outfit Masvingo City and Premier Soccer League side Triangle United will clash in the regional championship Bob 92 Zifa Cup celebrations at Mucheke Stadium today.
The main festivities to celebrate President Mugabe’s birthday will be held at the same stadium tomorrow.
The match will be a great opportunity for the Lowveld side’s new head coach Biggie Zuze to work on new player combinations.
The former DeMbare player and coach assumed his old post as head coach after the departure of Kelvin Kaindu who has since found a new home at How Mine.
However, the club kept the services of goalkeepers coach Tembo Chuma.
ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela said the two teams were chosen on geographical reasons adding that it was also a great opportunity for the two sides to intensify their preparations for the new season.
“We chose the two teams since Masvingo is playing host to the President’s birthday celebrations whilst Triangle showed interest in using the game to prepare their team. The match also gives players from both teams game time which is vital at this stage,” said Gwesela.
Masvingo City will also use the match to show their new sponsors, World Navi about their commitment of finishing on pole position in the upcoming new season and garnering the sole ticket to the top flight next year.
The two parties entered into a partnership this year and the sponsors did not hide their plan to turn the side into a powerhouse.
Gate charges have been pegged at $2 for the rest of the ground, $5 wings and $10 for the VIP.
