“On the day in question, Tira is alleged to have asked Gonera, her husband, why he was abusing money meant for domestic use and demanded back the money that she had lent him to which he responded by saying he was left with nothing and this could have enraged Tira,” said Insp Zhanero.
He said at around 9am, Tira left their homestead and disappeared into the bush without telling anyone where she was going.
“After an exchange of harsh words Tira allegedly left for the bush quietly without telling her husband where she was going. Gonera did not ask, neither did he follow her but after some time he saw a suicide note and in the note, Tira was demanding her $90.
“In the note she also mentioned that she had committed suicide and wanted to be buried in her kitchen. Gonera alerted other villagers and they teamed up and went to the nearby bush to look for Tira. They found her body hanging from a tree, about 400 metres away from her homestead,” he said.
He said police were called in and attended the scene before taking the body to Silveira Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
Insp Zhanero advised members of the public to seek counselling when they have problems instead of taking their lives.
“We always advise people to seek counselling services from the elderly, aunts, pastors and even the police when they have family problems. We don’t expect people to resort to ending their lives when other avenues to solve their problems are available,” he said.
