POLICE in Matabeleland North have embarked on an Anti-Crime campaign following an upsurge of unlawful entry and stock theft cases especially in Tsholotsho. Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said the campaign was aimed at empowering people to safeguard property and life.
The operation, which is being led by the Officer Commanding Police Lupane District, Chief Superintendent Johannes Govo also involves the anti-stock theft and the Victim Friendly Units as well as Lupane District Communication Relations liaison officers.
In Tsholotsho men were told that they should not be embarrassed to report domestic violence cases perpetrated by their wives, while families were conscientised on ways to protect children from rape and sexual abuse. Members of the public were told not to move around with dangerous weapons such as axes, knives and knobkerries.
Councils were urged to monitor butcheries as part of measures to fight stock theft. “Tsholotsho is our target due increased cases of housebreaking, violence and stocktheft,” said Ass Insp Makonese.
