Mat North SRC coordinator named

and Recreation Commission’s sports coordinator for the province.
His appointment is with effect from the 1st of next month and he takes over from Permanent Sibanda who was dismissed recently.
SRC director general Charles Nhemachena confirmed the appointment in an interview by telephone from Harare yesterday.
“The selection process is over and we have appointed Masuku who will start work at the beginning of next month. We received an overwhelming response from applicants and it was therefore not easy to come up with the best candidate for the post,” said Nhemachena.
The director general said Masuku will be responsible for coordinating all sporting activities on behalf of the SRC as well as implementing the commission’s programmes like the Community Sports Development Programme.
“He also has to coordinate the province’s participation in national sporting games like the Zimbabwe National Youth Games and the Paralympics,” said Nhemachena.
Masuku’s immediate task though is to coordinate the hosting of the fifth edition of the Zimbabwe Paralympics Games which will be held in Hwange in April.
Nhemachena refuted claims that Matabeleland North has a high staff turnover because of unworkable conditions, both geographically and human after it was reported at one time that the previous coordinators were being frustrated by some control-hungry education officers who normally find it hard to listen to persons who would have been their subordinates prior to the appointments.
“I would not want to attribute the high turnover to anything other than normal employment factors.
“Remember we previously had a lady Anna Tembo who left during the economic meltdown which everyone was feeling and after her we appointed Sibanda whose undesirable activity could not be tolerated,” said Nhemachena.
Tembo, Sibanda and the incumbents before that, Maswazi Hlongwane and Brian Moyo all came after spells in the classrooms as teachers and were suddenly in control of the provincial sporting needs.
Their appointments were on sporting merit and throughout their terms in office they always clashed with some education officers in one way or the other, eventually leading to them throwing in the towel.
