Yolanda Nkomo and Privilege Sibanda were crowned Miss and Mr Rural Zimbabwe Matabeleland South respectively at the pageant’s provincial affair which was held at Avoca business centre in Filabusi on 4 October.
The Queen and King will represent their province at the finals which will be held later this year.
The event was graced by chief Dakamela of Nkayi, Mavies Mpofu who travelled all the way from the United Kingdom to sponsor the stunning crowning event.
Also in attendance was Edward Mandeo who represented Minister of State for Matabeleland South Province and Devolution Eveline Ndlovu.
Taking to the stage, the models stunned the audience with traditional outfits, tribal make up and intricate African hairstyles by Inwelezami boutique featuring braids.
Local designers who showcased their creativity dressing models for the catwalk and run-way are Urban fusions, Hooked by grace, Penelope creations, Bishop Felicia Phiri, Anguni Design House, Its Grace by Lelo just to mention a few.
Performers who took to the stage are Skums Moon Walker, Ezebhubesi, Mfan’ oSotho, Prayer, Kizola, Zhezhington and many more.
Yolanda Nkomo – a 19 year-old beauty from Vokola village under Insiza district was over the moon to have been crowned Miss Rural Zimbabwe Mat South.
She expressed her commitment into advocating for rural youth empowerment and education.
“I plan to use this platform to promote girls’ education and economic empowerment in rural areas and also create projects that will make the youths to stay away from drugs and substance abuse,” she said.
The King Privilege Sibanda (19) from Sidingimpilo, in Insiza district vowed to promote cultural heritage and youth development in the province.
“I will work tirelessly to preserve our cultural traditions, support youth initiatives and give back to the community when given a chase because am where am because of this community,” he said.
Miss and Mr Rural Zimbabwe aims at promoting the rural youth, cultural preservation and rural developments. The pageant enables children from the rural communities to reach greater heights and make lasting impact in their communities.
