Liverpool stretch lead at the top of EPL table

Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the English Premier League with a hard fought, 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

The win resulted in The Reds cementing their place as log leaders with 18 points after seven matches.

Diogo Jota scored the solitary goal in the ninth minute when he poked the ball into the net from close range.

Before the match, Liverpool were well aware of the threat Palace posed, with April’s defeat at Anfield still fresh in their minds.

Liverpool coach Arne Slot made four changes from his side following Wednesday’s Champions League win over Bologna, with Jota returning to the line-up, replacing Darwin Nunez upfront. Cody Gakpo was also handed his first league start.

Liverpool dominated the game but missed numerous chances that could have resulted in a much more comfortable win.

Palace too, also had a couple of sniffs at goal but they could not capitalise.

The Reds made it nine wins out of 10 across all competitions under their new manager, Slot. (sundayworld.co.za)
