Matabeleland South schools proved their theatrical prowess after sweeping the top three positions at this year’s National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) national drama competitions.
The national competition, held recently at Mzingwane High School, brought together talented young performers from across Zimbabwe under the theme “Surprise”. It was Sacred Heart High School, representing Umzingwane District, that capitalised on home advantage to clinch the coveted top spot.

Close behind were Zezani High School from Beitbridge District in second place, while Manama High School from Gwanda District secured third, completing a clean sweep for the province.
The competition featured schools from all 10 provinces, with each province represented by one school, except for the hosts, who fielded three. The event highlighted the depth of dramatic talent among Zimbabwe’s students and provided a platform to showcase creativity, storytelling, and performance skills.
Other strong performances came from Chipadze High School (Mashonaland Central) in fourth place, St James High (Matabeleland North) in fifth, and Eveline High (Bulawayo) in sixth. Mutare Girls High (Manicaland) took seventh place, Mary Ward Secondary (Midlands) came eighth, Sandringham High (Mashonaland West) finished ninth, Pamushana High (Masvingo) was tenth, and Kuwadzana 2 High (Harare) rounded out the rankings in eleventh place.
Looking ahead, next year’s national drama competitions will be hosted in Mashonaland West and will explore the theme “Struggle”. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
