Mat Tuskers resume training

In a move meant to prepare the players for the gruelling second half of the season, the Dave Houghton-coached Bulawayo team will tomorrow undergo a fitness test at the National University of Science and Technology High Performance Centre.
Head of the Sports Science Department Bhekuzulu Khumalo said they were ready to work with Tuskers.
“The fitness programme that we will be conducting with the Tuskers team is meant to help the players ahead of the start of their games. This is not the first time for us to work with Tuskers and they will be coming to our High Performance Centre on Tuesday.
“Our desire as the Sports Science Department is to have local clubs and athletes coming to the High Performance Centre so that we help them develop,” Khumalo said.
Tuskers chief executive officer Stanley Staddon said they would start their training without national team players Njabulo Ncube and Keegan Meth who are preparing for the New Zealand tour.
Pace bowler Christopher Mpofu who is recovering from a back injury is also likely to be at the sidelines.
Tuskers are likely to welcome back Tawanda Mupariwa who missed the first half of the season due to a knee injury.
The Bulawayo club has arguably assembled one of the strongest squads and they are likely to retain the Castle Logan Cup.
Some of the players that are expected to play key roles in the team include Sean Ervine, brother to Tuskers and national team player Craig.
Pace bowler Glen Querl has also fitted in well in the team and if he maintains his form he might be offered a good contract next season.
Impressive spin bowler John Nyumbu who wedded recently, Mbekezeli Mabuza and Steven Trenchard are some of the players expected to lead Tuskers in the second half.
Keith Dabengwa, Gavin Ewing, Trenchard, the English duo of Adam Wheater and Paul Horton are to form a strong Tuskers’ batting attack.
