LAST weekend saw the Matabeleland Hockey Board hold a fun day to celebrate Olympic Hockey movement day in conjunction with the senior men’s national teams as well as their development initiative group of players.
This fun day which started in the morning to after lunch, targeted all hockey enthusiasts as well as seniors.
Players who attended had the privilege to interact with the national stars as well as coaches in the process learnt a thing or two about hockey.
After lunch a training session was to be conducted to the future players of the games with the aim of passing over valuable advice to the players.
Zimbabwe is targeting to qualify for the World Cup event to be held in Japan next year. However, they have to go through qualifying stages to determine their fate.
According to the MHB media officer Jerry Sullivan, a disappointing crowd turned out due to a number of reasons.
Efforts are however, underway to continue with this exercise as well as the continuous development of junior hockey players within the region in order to improve the standards.
Activities in Bulawayo are part of the national team plans as they prepare for the qualifiers which are due in August.
Like any other sport hockey is facing challenges with regards to mobilising resources to effectively carry out their activities effectively, said Sullivan
The hockey board also used the occasion to introduce a merchant code which well wishers can use to donate towards this worthy cause.
At the time of writing efforts were being made to see how much was raised from the fun day held at the venue.
