THE Matabeleland Warriors started their 2024 Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board (BMRFB) Archer Clothing Rugby League campaign with a dominant win over Highlanders in the second week of action at Hartsfield Rugby Ground on Saturday.

The Warriors, who won the inaugural league last year, defeated Highlanders 67-7 and claimed the top spot in the log standings with a superior points difference.

Their victory moved them ahead of Old Miltonians (OMs), Panthers.

The Warriors finished last year’s campaign unbeaten, winning all their matches on the way to the title as inaugural champions.

In the week two of the league, Panthers also produced a strong performance and thrashed Bulldogs 82-7. Bulldogs is the only team yet to win in this campaign. Warriors and OMs have so far played one match apiece.

There were no Division One matches in week two of the league, but in the women’s category, Warriors’ ladies whitewashed Highlanders 20-0. With two wins under their belt, Warriors’ ladies are comfortably sitting at the top of the log standings with 10 points, the only team with points on the board in their category.

Week three matches will take place next week, although the fixtures are yet to be confirmed.
