Seasoned drummer Samson Mataure has thrown his full weight behind Tocky Vibes, who lost about US$25000 after his album launch at Alexandra Sports Club flopped last weekend.
Despite doing all the necessary groundwork, the launch of “Mashangurapata” album at Alex Sports Club last Saturday in Harare turned out to be a monumental flop.
With social media trolls abounding, notable creatives and fellow musicians have been giving him a shoulder to lean on.
Instead of joining the band of trolls, Mataure showed maturity by offering Tocky some good words of advice.
“On my own behalf, I’m here with a message to Tocky Vibes that he must stay strong and not give up on his album launch project,” shared Mataure, who previously managed the late Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi.
Mataure, a former events planner and festival organiser, has urged Tocky to consult seasoned promoters and learn from the best.
“I would like him to reach out to Chipaz Promotions founder Partson Chimbodza and many others and ask for advice. He needs to ask for help on his next attempt. In life, sometimes we fall, have to get up, dust ourselves off, and carry on,” shared Mataure.
He maintained that Tocky remains a top chanter despite last weekend’s debacle. Mataure, who firmly believes in innovation, is optimistic that Tocky will make a comeback as a better person and even stronger artist.
“He still remains a good artist and a hard worker, and should keep his head up and continue with his career. Experience is the best teacher,” he added.
Several top musicians and other creatives, including Baba Harare, Andy Muridzo, and Madam Boss, have urged Tocky to be strong and move on.
The artistic community is rallying around Tocky, emphasising the importance of resilience in the face of setbacks. This support underscores the idea that failure is not the end but rather a stepping stone toward greater achievements.
Moreover, the music industry in Zimbabwe is known for its competitive nature, where artists often face challenges and criticism.
However, it is also a space that fosters camaraderie and support among musicians. Tocky Vibes can take comfort in knowing that many have faced similar obstacles and emerged stronger, making valuable connections and learning important lessons along the way.
In the long run, Tocky’s experience may serve as a catalyst for his growth as an artist. By learning from this setback and seeking guidance from established figures in the industry, he can refine his craft and approach in future projects.
With determination and hard work, Tocky has the potential to rebound and continue to contribute to the vibrant music scene in Zimbabwe.
