A total of five schools participated namely Hotspring, Chakohwa, Nechitimba, Mashonjowa and the winners Chaseyama. Matenda Tourney is a brain child of Clifford and Sharon Matenda. It started in 2014 and was specifically for Under 14 soccer boys.
“We started it as a family event in 2014 whereby we would gather as the Matenda family and play soccer. We went on to involve other villagers until we came out with the idea of starting a soccer tourney”, said Sharon.
Sharon said that their main aim is to develop youngsters who have the talent and passion for soccer.
“Our main aim is to develop these youngsters in our community who have the talent and passion for soccer. We are a bit far from the city so we cannot participate in most activities in the city. By starting this tournament we know we will raise great and talented soccer stars. All the teams are doing very well and Chaseyama School has won the tournament for the second time. We hope to improve also in the next edition in terms of monetary prizes,” added Sharon.
