with Zimbabwean contestant Clara Matenga upbeat about bringing the crown home.
The vivacious model, who is also the reigning Miss Teen Zimbabwe, said she was ready to take the international catwalk scene by storm when she graces the world contest scheduled for August 1 at Hilton Hotel in Houston City, Texas.
The pageant will see the Zimbabwean teen beauty squaring up with more than 100 other teen models from around the world for the coveted title.
The 19-year-old model is pencilled in to leave the country on July 30.
Clara shrugged off stiff competition from other 24 models at the Miss Teen Zimbabwe finals held two months ago at 7 Arts in Avondale to land the coveted title.
Renowned local designer Joyce Chimanye will provide some of the attire the teenager will wear during the world pageant.
In an interview, Clara said she wanted to make history by bringing the crown home.
“So far I am doing my best for the pageant, which is without doubt one of the biggest things that has ever happened to me. I am taking grooming lessons, gym, facials and beauty tips,” said the dimpled Clara.
She said she was also taking public speaking lessons to spruce up her speech presentation and boost her confidence on stage.
“I will also use the platform to market Zimbabwe and with help from my mother, research documents, chaperon and some other artifacts I am going to carry, I will definitely market a lot about Zimbabwe to the world and promise to deliver my best,” said the confident Clara.
The pencil-slim model is warming up to the crunch contest in the selected categories which include best cultural outfit among others that are held in the run-up to the grand finale.
Miss Teen personal trainer Otis Goredema, who owns a five-star gym located in Borrowdale Brooke, said Clara’s chances of landing the crown were high as she is taking her lessons seriously.
“We are very optimistic that Clara will win as she has what it takes to win at the Miss Teen World finals and this time around her mother will accompany her to Texas,” said Goredema.
The trip is an all-expenses paid trip and Clara will get US$250 as pocket money.
Last year Miss Teen Zimbabwe winner Nadine Hanh managed to lift the country’s flag high when she was in the top 15 at the same pageant.
