THE ramp is set for the Matabeleland Fashion Week (MFW) which kicks off at Fazak Home and Hyper in Woodlands, Bulawayo today. A contingent of Bulawayo designers including Litso Designs, Tribes, The Ministry Clothing, The Diva Brand and Sinini Collections as well as Victoria Falls designers Mosi and Eieenm Jewellery will take turns to showcase their clothing during the three-day expo.
Now in its second edition, the fashion week, which seeks to promote local designers, will feature a guest designer from South Africa, Millicent Nkagane.
She is expected in Bulawayo tomorrow for an exhibition of her Spunk fashion line designs.
An opening cocktail for guests to mingle with designers and models was held yesterday at the National Railways of Zimbabwe museum.
The fashion showcase, being held under the theme: ‘Promoting Economic Development through Fashion’, will end on Saturday with various activities and exhibitions taking place.
Fashion shows will be held in the evenings from tonight up to Saturday with afro-jazz group, Squash, providing entertainment. Fazak Home and Hyper will play home to the fashion week with all events being held there.
The brains behind the fashion extravaganza, Amanda Mtangadura, yesterday said: “Everything is in place and we’re now waiting to show people the best of fashion from the region. We hope they’ll enjoy and also learn what’s trendy, in season and stuff that’s out of season.”
An awards ceremony to celebrate those who have contributed to the success of the local fashion industry will be held on Saturday evening.
The fashion gurus will be awarded in 16 categories which include Outstanding Hair Stylist, Female/Male Style Icon, International Fashion Contributor, Best Female/Male Model, Promising Upcoming Model, Best Male/Female Designer, Outstanding Display Designer, Outstanding Photographer and Outstanding Makeup Artiste.
One of the participating designers, Annie Maliki of Litso designs, who has featured at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week, said she was ready to rock the runway with her avante garde designs – ready to wear men’s and women’s clothes.
