MATABELELAND swimming senior boys’ captain Ashby Tink, is confident his team will do well in the  Zimbabwe National Aquatic Championships in Harare next week.
Tink said he is positive they will do well at the five-day event.

“Mashonaland always beat us because of numbers, but not because of the quality of swimmers. I think we have the best that can outshine them,” he said.

Tink believes that the hard training they have been undertaking since the announcement of the squad will pay off.

“Since the squad was announced, we have been training extremely hard, we want to scoop more gold and silver medals, so everyone is putting an extra effort, I’m positive it will pay off,” he said.

He said they would also use the competition to qualify for the African Senior and Junior Championships.

“We also want to qualify for the All-Africa and other competitions, I’m positive after the competition the number in the national team will increase,” said the captain.

The ever dependable Avalon Bruce will skipper the girls’ team.

Meanwhile, some of the 58 selected swimmers will not be travelling to Harare.

Rising star Denilson Cyprianos will be among those not available because he is travelling with Petra Junior School.
