Matore takes charge

STRUGGLING Premiership side Motor Action have appointed long-serving assistant coach Prince Matore as the acting technical manager following the resignation of Joey Antipas this week.
Matore, however, will still receive support from veteran David George as the Mighty Bulls face Shabanie Mine in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at Maglas on Saturday.

A former defender and later captain, Matore has been with the team for a long time before he joined the technical department.
Antipas, who led Motor Action to their league championship in 2010, admitted that he needed to take a break from the team as they face relegation.

Motor Action’s biggest problem had been getting financial support and team director Eric Rosen released nearly 10 players during the mid-season transfer window.

Clement Matawu, Louis Matawu, Dylan Chivandire, Misheck Mburayi and Francis Nicho were among the players who left Motor Action before Antipas turned to Aces Youth Soccer Academy. The young players recruited from Aces were blended with the experienced legs of Passmore Benard, Itai Chiwara and Edward Tembo but still, results remained elusive as the team remain stuck at the bottom of the table. On Tuesday, Antipas announced his resignation and yesterday the club’s vice president Simeon Jamanda revealed that Matore will steer the ship.

“Prince Matore will be the acting technical manager but we still have Blah D in the set up,” said Jamanda.
Jamanda, said the resignation of Antipas was a blow to the side as the youthful players he had recruited had shown the will.
“It’s sad that Joey felt he was tired yet the players were very enthusiastic’’.

Jamanda said they were now aiming to collect maximum points from at least seven of the remaining 10 league games.
