NEWLY appointed Tenax coach, Ndega Matsika, has called for unity of purpose among players, supporters and the executive if they are to get to the Promised Land at the end of this season. “We need to work as a team if we are going to reap any rewards at the end of the season. United we stand and divided we fall. For us to gain promotion it is not one man’s business, but if all of us work together we will get there,” said the 42-year-old gaffer.
Tenax FC last season under the tutelage of Blessing Madombi finished on fifth position. The club has also appointed a new executive led by Maxwell Randasha who is being assisted by Henry Marapira, while Elisha Chirashanye is the secretary general and Clemence Nkomo is the treasurer.
Chauya Chikara, as Tenax are popularly known in the soccer circles, have managed to retain almost every player from last season save for playmaker, Farai Mugumwa who joined their sister club and Premier League debutants, Flame Lily.
Matsika is not new to Mutare where he has been a goalkeeper for 14 years. The Dangamvura-born gaffer played for ZUPCO which was in Division One in the early 90s before joining army side, Buffaloes FC in 1996 when the army side was still in second division.
Matsika played for three seasons before taking a six-month sabbatical in 1999 due to family commitments.
In 2006 Matsika left Buffaloes for another army side Black Rhinos where he had to fight for a jersey with Simba Manzungu as well as Brito Gwere.
