IN an article published in The Herald Online on August 21, 2026, under the headline, “Harare lawyer denied bail again”, we erroneously reported that lawyer David Junior Munashe Donzvambeva of Jiti Law Chambers had been denied bail following his appearance for routine remand at the Harare Magistrates Court in connection with a charge of fraud.
It has since come to our attention that Donzvambeva successfully appealed against the earlier refusal of bail by the Magistrates Court.
The High Court, under Case Number HCHCR4235/26, granted Donzvambeva bail of US$300 on August 13, 2026, subject to conditions.
His legal representatives have further clarified that his subsequent appearance before the Magistrates Court on August 20 was a routine remand appearance and was not a bail hearing. No fresh decision denying him bail was made on that date.
The earlier report accurately reflected the position at the time of the initial Magistrates Court proceedings, when bail had been refused and Donzvambeva was remanded in custody. However, the report did not reflect the subsequent High Court order granting him bail.
We therefore unreservedly apologise for any inaccurate impression created regarding the accused’s current bail status.
Any inconvenience is sincerely regretted – Editor.
