THE smooth passage of Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 in the National Assembly stands as clear testimony to Zimbabwe’s political maturity, unity and unwavering commitment to national progress, State Security Minister Lovemore Matuke has said.

In a statement, Minister Matuke highlighted that the way the process unfolded—calm, orderly, and respectful—demonstrates the steady consolidation of Zimbabwe’s democratic culture.

“What is particularly noteworthy is the broad-based support the Bill received across the political divide. Honourable Members from both the ruling party and the opposition came together in recognition of the national interest,” he said.

This convergence, he said, sends a strong signal that Zimbabwe’s political actors are increasingly embracing dialogue, tolerance, and constructive engagement.

This evolving political culture, Minister Matuke said, is the direct result of deliberate leadership at the highest level.

Minister Matuke commended the conduct of Zimbabwean citizens throughout this period. “The peace, discipline, and sense of responsibility displayed across the country reflect a nation that is confident in its institutions and committed to safeguarding its stability. This collective maturity enhances our standing within the region and the international community.

“As Government, we applaud the people of Zimbabwe for upholding these values. Peace and unity remain the cornerstone of our national development agenda, and they must be preserved at all costs”.

He said the performance of the National Assembly during the CAB 3 process also deserves recognition.

“Unity of purpose and disciplined engagement among our legislators are essential for advancing policies that benefit the nation. When leaders work together despite their differences, he stated they create an enabling environment for sustainable growth, social cohesion, and institutional strengthening.

“Fellow Zimbabweans, while diversity of opinion is an integral part of democracy, it must always be anchored in a shared commitment to nation-building. The passage of Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 has shown that when we place the national interest above all else, meaningful progress can be achieved.

“As we move forward, it is imperative that we consolidate these gains. Let us continue to foster a culture of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect. Let us remain united in purpose and resolute in our pursuit of national development,”’.

The statement comes after legislators this week overwhelmingly passed the proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill in the National Assembly. After this, the Bill will head to Senate when Parliament resumes sitting.
