Matulana back in Zimbabwe

Matulana returns to the country in anticipation of the release of his album in the coming year, which will be released jointly with a DVD.

No release date has been set for the two projects.

Matulana said his new album would see him switching to reggae as he had been experimenting with the genre.

He said his fans should not be confused by the sudden change to reggae, as this was a path that had been successfully followed by other artistes in the past.

“This new album will be made up entirely of reggae songs that I composed during my stay in South Africa. Fans should not be confused by this as I am still a Chingwira artiste at heart. This is something new for me but it has been done before by the likes of Solomon Skuza. He did it in some of his songs and he went on to become very successful and that is what I am also aiming at,” he said.

Matulana said he had received a lot of support in South Africa, with most of the shows in which he performed attracting good attendances.

He said he wished that people in Zimbabwe, Bulawayo in particular would show the same level of appreciation and support he enjoyed in South Africa.

“The support that I received in South Africa during my trip was phenomenal and all the shows that I went to were well attended. However, the support that I received that side only served to show me that people at home still do not support their own artistes as they ought to and that is a shame,” he said.

Matulana said he managed to work with other South Africa-based Zimbabwean artistes during his stay in the neighbouring country.

He said he had also managed to rub shoulders and share ideas with other Zimbabwean artistes whom he had not met in a long time.

“I worked with Mr Breezy who is now based in South Africa. I also met members from the old Kwaito group, Go Boys though it was on a personal rather than professional level. We did not manage to perform together but it was great to see that they are still alive and kicking,” he said.
