If maturity and experience were measures of wealth, Argatha Murudzwa would be one of Zimbabwe’s richest gospel divas.
Modest by nature, she may not often be recognised on the streets, but once she steps onto the stage, she transforms into a powerhouse.
Her high energy, exceptional vocal delivery and captivating choreography have made her a favourite among many.
With over 25 years in the industry, she has not only won the hearts of her audience but also nurtures big dreams.
Despite having seen it all, she remains grounded and true to herself.
Last weekend, she launched her 18th album titled “The Sermon” at David Livingstone Primary School in Harare and successfully fulfilled her mission.
It was one of those modest yet engaging events that left many in awe.
Gospel supremo Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Minister Michael Mahendere, Respina Mai Patai, Trymore Bande and Psalmist Lamondy Dube were among the guests in attendance.
Despite keeping it simple yet refreshing, Murudzwa firmly believes the mission was accomplished.
“I have been in the game for years, and this launch of my 18th album was special to me because we managed to achieve what we gathered in Harare for,” she emphasised.
“I will remain indebted to all those who supported me in making this event a success, and I will continue working hard to ensure that we achieve our dreams.
“Regarding my career spanning over 25 years, I am someone who enjoys what she does, and I believe that with the support I get from fans and those loyal to my brand, we will certainly reach for the stars.”
With all her years in the industry and yet to win major awards, Murudzwa insists that the Lord has something special in store for her.
“As a gospel musician, I am in this because it is a special calling I cannot afford to ignore. I will continue doing my best to ensure that I touch the hearts of millions with my music. I am not in this for competition but to spread the word of God, as I have always maintained over the years,” she stated.
Turning to her new album, “The Sermon”, she has vowed to continue preach the eternal gospel of faith in God, restoration, love, unity, and thanksgiving.
It features seven spiritually-uplifting songs namely “Anotendera,” “Eloi,” “Fara Munashe,” “Jesu Anopedza,” “Ndozva Ndisingade,” and “Jerusarema.”
The album was recorded by new producer Dr Cassol from Dzivaresekwa, Harare.
Dr Cassol is one of the fresh minds in music production to emerge in recent years and has managed to stamp his authority with pride.
“I decided to engage him because he is not only talented but creative beyond his years. He may not be a well-known producer, but his work has been making waves out there. If you ask anyone who has hired him, they will confirm that he is immensely talented and destined for greatness,” noted Murudzwa.
Conceived in January at Dr Cassol’s studio, the album was only released nine months later, as Murudzwa took her time perfecting it.
“I always take my time when recording a new album because of the reputation I have as an artist. I don’t want to be remembered for delivering half-baked material since I believe in producing superior quality, as I have always maintained over the years. This philosophy has worked in my favor, and I will continue to uphold it for years to come,” noted Murudzwa.
As part of marketing her latest album, Murudzwa, who is largely self-funded, has vowed to organise a series of “Thank You” parties around Zimbabwe.
“We always cherish those who support and believe in us. In our quest to market this album, which has already been embraced, a special concert is coming in October, while other gigs have been set for Mutare, where I come from. Most of these parties will take place before December 2025, with international tours planned for next year.”
Murudzwa, who has extensively toured the region, remains humble and believes in the fullness of time.
“I know many people might be curious about why I seem not to fuss over international tours, but the truth is we are waiting for the right offers. We don’t complain or feel left out; only God, who gave me this talent, knows where it will take me. I am doing what He has called me to do, and that is the right path I have long sought ever since I burst onto the music scene.”
She added, “On another note, we have been on a rebranding mission with my new management and it’s always right to embrace how others are doing it.
“Times are changing, and we need to reinvent the wheel to reach for the stars. I am glad we are making remarkable progress. Now that we have a new product on the market, we can do everything we want with confidence.”
Besides “The Sermon”, Murudzwa has several albums, including “Fambai Neni” (2003), “Ndimi Mwari” (2005), “Ngatitye Mwari” (2007), “Hupenyu Hwangu” (2009), “Mwari Anotiona” (2010), “Press On” (2011), “No Pain, No Gain” (2013), “Grace Period” (2015), “Breakthrough” (2016), “The Living Word” (2018), “It is Well” (2019), “Ukholo Lwami” (2019), “Zvitsauko” (2020) and “Ikem” (2021) among other singles and multiple collaborations.
