Mavericks plan for Regional Games

Sports Reporter
BASKETBALL Union of Zimbabwe (Buz) National League women’s champions Southern Mavericks will meet tomorrow to plan for the August African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five club championships.

Mavericks won the right to represent Zimbabwe at the regional games after beating city neighbours Lakers 63-41 in the final of the National League last week.

Joe Mujuru, Mavericks’ general manager, said they will meet tomorrow to plan for the tournament.

“This has been a fruitful season for us and winning a double is something we will cherish forever. We’re having a meeting to plan for the regional club championships and finalise on the budget. It’s expensive to compete at international competitions and because of that, we’ve to start looking for resources early,” said Mujuru.

Mavericks and Lakers will represent Zimbabwe in the women’s category, while the Harare-based JBC and Cameo will compete in the men’s division.

JBC are the men’s national champions while Cameo are the runners-up.
