arrested on Friday last week on allegations of criminal abuse of duty as public officers.
Acting Mashonaland West police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the arrest.
He said the two would appear in court today.
Allegations against the two are that sometime in August this year a Chinhoyi man approached Mr Dube-Marumahoko looking for a stand to buy. The acting mayor allegedly indicated that he had a stand he was selling for US$2 500.
The two agreed on terms of sale.
The acting mayor allegedly approached Mr Marufu and fraudulently processed the papers for the stand in Rujeko suburb.
Asst Inspector Kohwera said the man paid US$2 000 promising to pay the balance later.
“After the payment the two men showed him a stand in Rujeko suburb,” he said. However, the deal went sour when the man went to check with Chinhoyi Municipality on the status of the stand.
He was advised that the stand was not for sale and reserved for the less privileged.
The buyer reportedly discovered that he had been shown a stand with a number different from the one on the housing forms.
The acting mayor confessed to the crime, offering to pay back the money.
He made an undertaking to repay the money by October 5 before a lawyer.
The prospective buyer reported the matter to the police, leading to the duo’s arrest.
