His comments follow recent criticism on Harare’s poor cleanliness record by the two leaders when they addressed the Zimbabwe Local Government Association conference in Victoria Falls.

Mr Masunda called on the two leaders to use their “oratory skills” to appeal to their supporters to desist from polluting the environment.

Mr Masunda said the city could also enlist one of its workers Elizabeth Bwanya of the popular Mbare Chimurenga Choir to do jingles on anti-littering “in addition to the ones she does in support of President Mugabe”.

However, his deputy Clr Emmanuel Chiroto suggested that the city should call in for reinforcements from the army to assist in refuse collection.
He said the city should radically change the way it does business and fire incompetent workers who hamper service delivery.
“It is only councillors on the wrong side of the law that are being fired. We also need to fire non performers,” he said.
