HARARE Mayor Jacob Mafume led the guests who graced the official opening of Maka Sip n Eatery in Hatfield on Friday.
The outdoor restaurant is owned by socialite Wanisai “Mahwindo” Mutandwa and is named after her daughter Maka.
The mayor was the leading guest at a function which was also graced by former Dynamos president, Kenny Mubaiwa, who is related to Mahwindo.
Businessman and philanthropist, Mudiwa Hood, who is also related to Mahwindo, also graced the restaurant’s official opening.
Some of the leading guests included Pan Jap owner, Brighton Ushendibaba, who has been a strong supporter of the Mahwindo Foundation, which donates food and clothes to the elderly, especially in the Seke rural areas.
Businessman Allison Tamayi, who is the chairman of social football club, Agents, also graced the event.
Boss Archie, who runs Habhana Lounge, where Mahwindo works as the manager, also lent his support.
“This is a bold initiative that we have taken and we hope to make a big impact in the industry,” said Mahwindo.
“We know it’s a tough industry but we will give it our best shot.
“For me, what is important is taking all these kids out of the employment zone and giving them jobs to ensure they feed themselves and their families.”
