A 36-year-old Chipinge woman has been ordered to perform 630 hours of community service for scalding her husband with cooking oil.
Initially, the accused person was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, six months of which was suspended for five years, on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining 18 months were wholly suspended on condition that she perform 630 hours of community service.
The accused appeared before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court facing charges of contravening the Domestic Violence Act in that she physically abused her 41-year-old husband.
It is the State’s case that on December, 18 last year, the accused had a misunderstanding with the complainant over how he spends money with his second wife.
The State proved that the accused went outside the house and returned with a cup of hot cooking oil.
She poured it on her husband’s face and shoulders and he suffered severe burns.
