MAYOR ORDERS PROBE INTO VENDOR’S ASSAULT

Nokutenda Rusero

CITY of Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume, has warned that some municipal officers could face severe sanctions as he ordered  an investigation into allegations that they brutally assaulted a vendor in the capital this week.

Video footage showed municipal police officers attacking a vendor and Mafume wants a thorough probe into the incident.

“We have called this meeting so that we can deal with some issues that are both housekeeping and of national concern.

‘’We once had a similar meeting with traffic police at a time when residents were complaining about the way some of our officers were enforcing by-laws.

‘’We need to be careful in our method, we are the primary police force in our country.”
