Mayor’s Cheer Fund set for tomorrow

Chinhoyi Municipality will hold its Mayor’s Cheer Fund tomorrow. In an interview last week, the fund’s board chairperson, Mr Godfrey Mavhankeni, said they were expecting to raise $10 000 to help cushion the underprivileged during the festive season.

“This year we are expecting a great improvement of the Mayor’s Cheer Fund, which we have set for 8 December. We are, therefore, calling on the corporate world and the whole Chinhoyi community at large to extend their donations in whatever form so that we can make a difference and bring smiles to the underprivileged. We expect to raise $10 000 to disburse to the needy,” he said.

Mr Mavhankeni said they invited churches, schools, prisoners, beneficiaries, corporates and the community for the event. He said Chinhoyi mayor councillor Test Michaels will switch on the Christmas lights during the event.

“We are expecting that this year there will be great improvements as we have targeted $10 000, and the response we are getting is overwhelming, but we continue to ask for more donations,” he said.

Chinhoyi Municipality will also organise a dinner dance before Christmas to shore up the fund.
