Mayowe launches book

Sunday Mail Reporter

AUTHOR Chengeto Mayowe yesterday launched three books which look at the diversity of local cultures through drawing from popular folklore.

The trilogy comprises titles: “Daughters of fate”, “Seers vision” and “Oracles tales”.

In an interview during the launch held in Harare, Mayowe said: “This is me trying to redefine Zimbabwean ontology and traditions.

“I also like a lot of cultures which is why I blended it with a Japanese culture and traditions as well.

“So the book is multi-cultural — Zimbabwe and Japan.

“But it definitely has many aspects of folklore that you have heard.

“I have just done them with a little twist.

“It’s a trilogy, so it’s three books.”

She said local authors have very little support and have to unite in order to succeed.

“I have found that there is literally very little form of support for local writers.

“They have to do everything by themselves and they literally have to work together, if that is not the case then nothing happens.

“Many people don’t have access to self-publishing.

“There is more support for painters and filmmakers in Zimbabwe.

“So, I think there is a need to include authors also.”
