Mazikana eyes Mr Universe title

HULKY Mutare’s Body Focus Gym bodybuilder, Brighton Mazikana, did the city proud after finishing second in the Mr Zim-Classics contest held in Harare last weekend to book a ticket for the Mr Universe finals in Italy.

The Mr Universe finals are scheduled for October.

The Zim-Classics contest was adjudicated by European-based judges from the International Federation of Bodybuilding who were looking at contestants’ quality of muscles, which saw Mazikana winning the dream chance of showcasing his muscles at an international event.

In an interview, Mazikana said it was through hard work and training that saw him excelling.

“The best things in life come through hard work and one of my dreams to participate in an international event has come true. I am over the moon that I have managed to make the international grade.

“This is the stepping stone I was angling for all these years. I am confident that I will raise the country’s flag high in Italy. Besides raising the country’s flag high, I am also looking forward to learn from the world’s best bodybuilders. I am also looking forward for more sponsorship,” said Mazikana.

He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Mutare businessman, Canaan Matiashe, who has been my advisor and motivator from the beginning.

“For more than two years now his financial support has made it possible for me to be part of the provincial, national and southern regional body building competitions.

Now I am in the international field, I am grateful.”Manicaland Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (MABBA) chairman, Farai ‘Talawa’ Kasecha, said he had enough confidence that bodybuilders from the eastern border city would make it in the Zim-Classics.

“I knew very well that the eastern boys’ presence would be felt in this year’s edition of the Zim-Classics.

Here we are now and we have no doubt that Mazikana will do us proud in Italy,” said Kasecha.

“Though other competitors could not make it to the next level, they learnt a lot through their participation at the Zim Classics and Mazikana’s achievement brought with it more inspiration to the Manicaland Team.

“We now believe victory is not for the guys in the capital only. Therefore we are going to show the nation how we do it again at the Mr Iron Zim competition to be held in Kadoma on September 5,” he said.
