MBA season roars on

MUTARE Basketball fans continue to have fun as different teams from all over the province continue to converge at Raylton Sports Club in Mutare for the 2015 season.

14 teams are competing this season, namely Mercenaries, Chiefs, Chikanga Hustlaz, Mutare Boys High School Shumbaz, Dangamvura Knights, Africa University, Dangamvura Sixers, Saints, Sharks, Sophists, Wolves and Sakubva Hurricanes.

The stiff competition in the season’s week two (last Saturday),saw Dangamvura Knights leading in the male section with four points while Africa University leads its female rivals with three points.

Rusape Giants and Saints are new comers to the season with a ladies and men’s team.

Rusape Giants ladies did very well last weekend as the Ndawana sisters, Tafadzwa and Ndaremeredzwa displayed what they could do best.

They made a huge impact to upset Africa University.

Rusape Giants ladies also won 14-9 against AU which later managed to beat Chiefs 40-8.

However Rusape Giants’ men’s team got huge blow of 85-16 from the Saints. The star studded Saints had depth in their team which boasts of Zimbabwe national team’s players namely Moses ‘Zimo” Muyambo, Innocent Sithole, Gerrald Stain and Dion Manyange.

Sophists also won 71-64 against Sixers.

Manicaland Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo said he is very happy that the games are going on very well.

“Unlike any other years, more teams are taking part in this year’s edition. Besides that, more people from different parts of the city are coming over to support and have fun as we play these games. Things are going on as we planned and everyone is most welcome to see and enjoy,”

said the MBA spokesperson.

In a seperate interview, Muyambo who plays for the Saints, said this is the first time their team has taken part in these games and they are hoping to come out on the first position at the end of the season.“As things are right now, chances are very high that we will make take the first position at the end of the season.

This is our first time but we are having lots of fun and we are also learning a lot from each other as players,” said Muyambo.
