Squatter drags farm owner to court

A Mutare man whose farm was invaded by squatters is up in arms in court with the squatters who are claiming that the farm belongs to them.

Appearing before magistrate Mrs Anniah Ndiraya, Tennison Manjeya told the court that the man who had dragged him to court seeking a protection order, Gilbert Nyamande was only a squatter who was resisting eviction from his Mutare farm.

Nyamande had told the court that Manjeya was in the habit of sending his workers to herd his cattle and goats at his home stead claiming that the place was his grazing land for his cattle.

“The land that I stay on is not gazetted Your Worship, he knows his own boundaries but he just wants to cause trouble with me and my family.

“As I speak, my homestead is in a mess because just last week he came with his workers on my yard and started herding his cattle there and when I tried talking some sense into him, he claimed that I stayed in his farm and that my homestead was situated on his grazing lands,” said Nyamande.

Mrs Ndiraya granted a protection order to Nyamande against Manjeya pending the finalisation of the eviction proceedings.
