BEING found in possession of 10 sachets of mbanje saw a Sakubva man being sentenced to do 210 hours of unpaid work.
Mitchel Mhlanga (17) of House Number 261, Maoresa, appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura facing charges of possessing and selling mbanje.
She pleaded guilty.
The court heard that Mhlanga was found with 10 sachets of mbanje weighing 26g and 15g respectively at Sakubva Musika after police detectives received a tip-off that she was peddling drugs.
“On 14 July, police detectives received information that she was selling mbanje. Upon searching her house, they recovered 10 sachets of the dangerous drug that were hidden under the pillow of her bed. She was subsequently arrested,” said Public Prosecutor, Mr Donald Mudadirwa.
In mitigation, Mhlanga said she was selling mbanje in order to make ends meet since she was unemployed.
“I ventured into this business of selling mbanje because I wanted to pay rentals and bring food on my table. My husband is unemployed, therefore I was trying to earn a living,” she pleaded for leniency.
In sentencing her, Mrs Chiundura said: “You should use legal means to earn a living.”
