An unrepentant Dangamvura dagga peddler will spend the next three months behind bars after he was nabbed with 25 sachets of mbanje and three bottles of Broncleer. Blessing Shamba (29) who had previous convictions on similar charges was arraigned before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira, facing allegations of possessing and selling dagga without a trading licence.
He was convicted on his own plea of guilty. It was the state’s case led by public prosecutor, Mr Fletcher Karombe that Shamba was found with 25 sachets of dagga weighing 55 grammes in Dangamvura. The court heard that on 11 November police detectives received a tip off that Shamba was in possession of mbanje.
“Upon searching his homestead, they recovered 25 sachets of the dangerous drug in his house and an additional 3 bottles of Broncleer. He failed to give a convincing explanation on why he was in possession of the illegal substances,” he said
Asked on why he had committed the offence, Shamba begged for leniency and attributed his bad behaviour to poverty and hunger. Shamba was convicted on the same charges by Mr Mukwengi on 3 September and was fined $100.
