LONDON. — The saga that is the future of Kylian Mbappe has taken a fresh twist after it emerged he will discuss signing a new contract at Monaco.
Monaco have confirmed they are in talks to extend Mbappe’s contract and insist Thomas Lemar is staying at the club.
The French club have already confirmed to Sky Sports News they have not agreed a world-record £161m (€180m) transfer fee with Real Madrid for Mbappe, and have now said there will be no more departures from the club.
The French teenager is the most wanted player in world football this summer. Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris St Germain have all been strongly linked with the 18-year-old.
The latest reports had suggested that Real Madrid had managed to agree at £161million deal with Monaco. However the French Ligue 1 champions’ vice-president has rubbished those claims and says Monaco’s aim is to extend the France international’s contract.
“There is no agreement, Monaco’s wish is to prolong (his contract), but we must allow time to discuss with the player and his family,” said Vadim Vasilyev.
Vasilyev added that he wasn’t surprised by the amount of attention on the striker considering the impact he made after breaking into the first team last season.
“He is the biggest hope of European football, it is normal that there should be so much attention around him.” — Sky Sports.
