ALTHOUGH 17 suspects accused of being behind the violent unrest, which swept through Mupedzanhamo market in Mbare were nabbed, the real instigators remain at large.
According to sources, the real kingpins behind the unrest are the Chinodya brothers, Elias, Tongai, Mugove and Cleopas Chinodya.
The four brothers are currently on the run together with their mother, following four days of violent skirmishes, which forced authorities to temporarily shut down the market.
The Chinodya brothers have a history of violence and had reportedly been collecting US$5 a day from Mupedzanhamo stall owners, raking in about US$5 000, which they shared with their mother.
Some vendors and innocent people were injured during the skirmishes.
Cars were stoned and wares were burnt or looted.
The thugs unleashed violence after facing resistance from vendors.
The clashes disturbed the flow of traffic and business at the usually busy and noisy Mbare Musika.
So far, Taurai Mbidzo, Norest Gwangwava, William Masomera, Beverly Chimedza, George Raphel, Muza Bornface, Hwahwa Mbariro, Albert Murambadoro, Brighton Nyamadziro, Norman Kasi, Ronald Mutyambira, Tatenda Matamba, Thembelami Chibva, Eastern Chimombe, Edmore Mandovha and Morgan Chinake have appeared in court on public violence charges.
They were remanded in custody by magistrate Dennis Mangosi and are set to apply for bail today.
