adminNomzamo Mbatha has announced her intention to return to Mzansi Magic soapie, Isibaya.
Mbatha left Isibaya in April last year. At the time, she and her fellow co-stars, Sdumo Mtshali and Pallance Ndlovu were apparently embroiled in a pay dispute which led to their departure from the popular drama.
Mbatha was one of the original cast members who joined the soapie at its inception in March 2013. Alongside screen veterans, Nandi Nyembe, Siyabonga Thwala and Tumisho Masha — Mbatha crafted her budding acting career. Speaking to Sowetan, the 24-year-old said she was looking forward to the return of her character, Thandeka Zungu.
“I’m looking forward to playing Thandeka again and viewers have been yearning to see Thandeka being reunited with her father.”
Isibaya has won a slew of awards including the South African Film and Television awards for best TV actress and best actor as well as best director — but the drama has taken a boring turn and is in need of a storyline boost.
What once enthralled viewers of the show was its well researched Zulu dialogue, swift, engaging and exciting plot and brilliant acting.
However, since Mbatha, Mtshali and Dladla left, the intriguing stories which told of genuine South African lifestyles have been replaced with a plot which revolves around Vusi Kunene, his family and his devious shenanigans.
While Kunene is an immensely talented actor, he, Mampho Brescia, Thembi Nyandeni, Celeste Ntuli and Siyabonga Thwala are seemingly struggling to hold up the soapie.
Perhaps with the return of Mbatha, whose romance with former cast mate, Mtshali brought in a fresh and youthful feel to the show — Mzansi Magic’s flagship soapie will be reinvigorated. — TimesLive.
