TALENTED mbira player, Texas “Rovambira” Tekenya, has praised fans for endorsing his latest album titled Munamato WaGwenyambira.
Released early this month, the album carries 10 tracks comprising ‘‘Ehunde’’, ‘‘Zvanaka Machembere’’, ‘‘Mhuri yangu’’, ‘‘Dhumbu ramambo’’, ‘‘Vana Vangu’’, ‘‘Dzinomwa Muna Save’’, ‘‘Mbira Dzapasi Chigare’’, ‘‘Chinyakare’’ and the title track ‘‘Munamato wa Gwenyambira’’.
In an interview with H-Metro, Rovambira could not hide his elation.
“It feels good when you get positive responses after releasing an album.
“A number of artists have been releasing good albums, but at times they don’t get positive responses.
“This can discourage one to continue doing music, which is not the case with me,” he said.
Rovambira said he was determined to preserve Zimbabwean culture through mbira music.
“In all our songs we try to teach people the importance of upholding our culture.
“Our culture needs to be preserved to ensure that we don’t disappoint people.
“It has always been my dream to ensure that I play my part in the restoration of our culture.
“I promise to continue releasing music, which reflects our culture and way of life.
“As Zimbabweans, we should have pride in our culture as is the case with other nations,” he said.
