MBIRA artist, Mary Anibal, is set to launch her debut album, alongside her mentor Jah Prayzah, tomorrow at Alliance Francaise.

Titled ‘Maria Wenyu’, the majority of her songs deal with themes such as human trafficking, mental health, gender-based violence, child marriage and child labour.

She will share the stage with Tsoro Arts Community, Kudzi Kays, Arundel School, Josh Chaps K, Ndomzy, Skai and Michar.

“I am honoured to have my long-time mentor Jah Prayzah joining me for a special appearance at my album launch event this Saturday.

“I have had the privilege of working with him as a backing vocalist and mbira player since 2021, and I have gleaned a lot from his artistry.

“I am thrilled to have him to be a part of this important milestone. Can’t wait for you all to witness the ‘Maria Wenyu’ album showcase on Saturday,” she said.

She has produced a number of singles, which have gained airplay not only locally, but across the world.

One of her best songs is “Mvura.”

It is a mbira-backed track which speaks on themes like nature and the arrival of rain.

Her recent solo release is titled “Vana Ava,” speaks of the injustices and strife children face in a damaged society.
