ZIMBABWE’s latest mbira find, Tatenda Rushwaya, is a woman on a mission.

The talented mbira player, who was born in Harare, believes she is into music to serve a purpose.

In her case, she feels it is a calling she is fulfilling.

Although she can sing other genres like jazz, reggae, and hip-hop, Tatenda can’t give up mbira music.

“I see the mbira as a versatile instrument that can be used to create all kinds of music.

“I want to push the boundaries of what’s possible with this instrument and bring it to new audiences.”

Tatenda has already achieved some notable success in her career.

“I have performed at major festivals and events across Zimbabwe, including the Harare International Festival of the Arts, and the Mbira Festival and I am determined to keep pushing myself as an artist.

“I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had so far, but I know there is still so much more I want to accomplish.

“I want to keep growing as an African Christian musician and sharing my love for mbira,” she said.
