CELEBRATED mbira artiste, Texas “Rovambira” Tekenya, is set to release a new album titled Munamato waGwenyambira on Friday.
Backed by the Culture Stars, the mbira player is on demand.
Three of his new songs, ‘‘Zimbabwean Culture’’, ‘‘Mbira Dzepasi’’ and ‘‘Chinyakare’’, have proved popular with fans during live shows. Seven more songs, which complete the album, comprise ‘‘Ehunde’’, ‘‘Zvanaka Machembere’’, ‘‘Mhuri yangu’’, ‘‘Dhumbu ramambo’’, ‘‘Vana Vangu’’, ‘‘Munamato wa Gwenyambira’’ and ‘‘Dzinonwa muna Save’’.
“In all our music, we are appealing to God and the ancestors to protect us from evil spirits, misfortunes and deaths.
“As a group of mbira players, we are hoping the album will reflect our culture and serve as the rebirth of mbira music,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rovambira will hold a public launch of the new album at Montel Whisky Sports Bar at Zindoga Shopping Centre in Waterfalls.
