Mbundane residents to finally get water

The development comes amid revelations that the Bulawayo City Council feud with Umguza Rural District Council has ended with the two local authorities finally agreeing that water be connected to the suburb under the Bulawayo City Council master plan.

However, Mbundane residents would have to wait for a time when the city has enough water from its supply dams.

In an interview on the sidelines of the official launch of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Housing Fund in the suburb on Tuesday, Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Thaba Moyo, said the war over jurisdiction of the area had ended, paving way for connection of water supplies.

Clr Moyo said that would depend on availability of water for the city, which is now reportedly running at a deficit as levels at the main supply dams have dwindled.

“We have reached an understanding with our counterparts and the suburb will now have water. However, that will depend on whether Bulawayo has enough water because the situation at the moment is not right. What we want is activity on our project and we hope to have water connected to the suburb soon but depending on the situation in our dams,” said Clr Moyo.

Mbundane was established in 2005 with 2 000 stands on offer.

It is located in Lower Rangemore and falls under Umguza RDC though it is within the Bulawayo master plan approved by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development in 2004.

More than 600 houses have been built so far and they  rely on one borehole for water.
